If you want a filling meal at a great price near Hongdae in Yeonnam-dong, I recommend the hidden local favorite “Jageun Maeul Bapjip.” It’s about an 8-minute walk from Exit 1 of Gajwa Station.
True to its name, this is a classic “rice-meal” spot with comforting staples: doenjang jjigae, sundubu jjigae, kimchi jjigae, cheonggukjang, and of course jeyuk (spicy stir-fried pork)—a must at any set-meal place. The standout here is the jeyuk set with ramyeon, which costs just 10,000 KRW—surprisingly affordable.
In the video, they tried the jeyuk + ramyeon set and sundubu jjigae. The side dishes instantly give you that “home-cooked” vibe: seasoned wild greens, stir-fried mushrooms, bracken fern, acorn jelly, napa kimchi, plus seaweed and soy sauce. Just seeing the table makes you feel at ease.
Jeyuk-bokkeum—pork stir-fried in gochujang and chili seasoning—is a Korean soul food. Here, you get a nice hint of wok-char (“bulmat”), but it’s not trying to be flashy. That’s the charm: it tastes like the kind of familiar, everyday comfort you’d gladly come back for. One bite of jeyuk, one bite of rice—and your bowl is gone before you know it. The atmosphere also feels friendly for solo diners.

The ramyeon in the set is that classic, satisfying taste you already know—and alternating bites with the jeyuk makes it even better.
The sundubu jjigae is soft and silky, and the broth is not overly spicy, making it perfect with rice. A spoonful of hot stew, a bite of rice, then a quick slurp of ramyeon—simple, but it turns into a small feast.

You don’t always need a “famous, special” restaurant to feel happy. Sometimes a warm, modest meal like this—full of home-meal comfort—is exactly what you need. If you’re in Yeonnam-dong and want something easy, hearty, and comforting, stop by Jageun Maeul Bapjip.
